Anyone got a quick solution to this problem?

Do I even want ldap? Why is it such a mission to set up?
What's it really good for, that isnt accomplished simpler without it?

You should first learn how to use newsgroups before actually posting. This
is not an helpdesk for braindamaged people.

You are supposed to search a minimum on your own before crying for help. You
also should show some respect for people if you actually expect some help
from them.

In other words, return where you come from, there is nothing for you here.

wow! That's a bit harsh.

To the OP, LDAP is a protocol for accessing a specific type of directory
- useful kind of database where you generally need to do lots of read
and infrequent write/update.

Bring down the ldap server and see what happens. In all likelihood, you
are not using it. If you find that an application is not working, turn
in on again and from that you can deduce whether the application needs
it or not (or read the application documentation!).

Why pop3 dies when ldap is running? - don't know. Maybe your pop3 server
is configured to access an ldap server (which itself is not configured
correctly then pop3 just gives up ... maybe, maybe not).

cheers

Thanks G...

Yes my pop3 is configured 2 use ldap, I read some howtos and did some
configuring of ldap, but apparently theres too much detail than i can
afford to look at.

So, my pop3 works when it can't access ldap.

When it can however, it doesn't let anyone in, and the stupid pop3 just
hangs with no reply.

The logs... Hmm, cant remember what it says, my log file is so full of
messages, I think the day I've got it all waxed, I'll take a month long
vacation and post.

Long story short, LDAP isnt worth the hassle if you dont have a week of
your precious time to devote to it.

soz, let me mention this. I spent about 6 hours reading howtos,
searching about LDAP, configuring it. *sigh*

I'll show my respect when you come up with a simple answer.

Low self esteem there... "nothing". Hello "nothing".

OOh, spasm.
ulp..
ulp

Cant keep it in!!!

I suppose I am *braindamaged*, probably all these X-RAYS coming from
this ancient CRT, or maybe all the hassles from our TELECOMS MONOPOLY.
Or maybe all the drugs I was fed when I had the EBSTEIN BARR virus, or
HAPATITIS B. Why dont you ASSASINATE ME if you can't find anything
better to do, like say, ignoring my posts if you dont have an answer? or
posting a quick reply if something pops to mind? Or !@#*$@(# my !@#$ you
!@#$!@#4 @!#$@#$ @#$%@#$ @!#$. Get a life. ... I know I dont have one,
all thanks to the wonderful simplicity of this !@#($*!@(#$ !@(#$* !@(
'technology' we have to put up with.

French 'don't work enough'
28/04/2005 22:18 - (SA)

Paris - Most French believe they don't work enough, and four in five who
have jobs consider their work a source of fulfilment, a poll released on
Thursday shows.

The poll, conducted for regional newspapers, comes as many in France are
grumbling over a new law that scraps one national holiday a year to help
fund better health care for the elderly.

Fifty-six percent of poll respondents said they think the French don't
work enough, and 28% said believe they work too much. Ten percent said
they work the right amount; 6% had no opinion.

Among the respondents who have jobs, four in five said that they
considered their work "to be a factor of fulfilment", according to the poll.

The government passed a law last year to scrap a national holiday, with
tax receipts from the new workday earmarked for better health care for
the elderly - the main victims of France's summer heat wave in 2003 that
left nearly 15 000 dead.
