I think you can acheive what you want to do, which is use a normal
email client from your workplace which is behind a http proxy.
However, some machine somewhere on the net needs to use port 110 to
pop your mail out of your ISP, and the http proxy probably isn't going
to talk to anything except port 80 and maybe 443.
If have control of a third machine out on the internet somewhere, such
as a machine at home on a cable modem, you can have it do the pop
stuff for you and turn around and re-present the mail through http.
I think the easiest way for you to do this is to find some tool that
will allow you to read mail normally from the Yahoo web interface,
such as fetchyahoo (
http://fetchyahoo.sourceforge.net/ ) or
YoSucker(
http://yosucker.sourceforge.net/ ). Then set up your Yahoo
account to "check other email addresses" which will allow Yahoo's
computer to pop mail out of your ISP in the web mail interface.
