Poor Sky BB customer service

I wish I had something else to worry about to be honest........

I thought Sky BB was brilliant at first. For about 6 months the speed has
been great - about 2 Mb faster than with other ISP's (I think I'm on LLU
now).....

Since last night the speed has gone from consistently being 4Mb (with
dropouts admittedly) to 700Kb (repeated tests at Speedtest.net and
thinkbroadband.com).......

I've called Sky Broadband Customer Services and I'm fed up now....

After 4 calls where they tell you (unoriginally) to plug into the master
socket and reboot your router and PC...blah blah blah..........

It's still slow - I've not changed anything this end and I'm sick of
speaking to the call centre, with no English as a first language agents.
[I'm not being racist here - they just sound like robots reading from a
script who are told that if they deviate from will be shot].

Why is it so slow????. I'm in Staffordshire - Anyone else experiencing this
as I'm getting nowhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Incidentally, why has Sky got such a poor customer service for Broadband -
This didn't happen ever with Zen or even PlusNet! There's no webpage I can
check into either to check my account easily.

A colleague in work had me look at his laptop the other day - apart
from having spyware (which never helps) he's been complaining about
poor speeds on both the laptop and a desktop.

I finally annoyed him enough by constantly asking for his stats last
night, and he checked them:

128kbit downstream, 128kbit upstream...

"NO WONDER YOUR CONNECTION'S SO F*CKING SLOW !!!"

And yes, my advice to him was to start by unplugging any phones in the
house to see if it improves, and then take a screwdriver to the
faceplate and try the test socket.

I await his update now :-}

Oh, and FWIW i'm off the same exchange as him - my speed hasn't
dropped much (perhaps 0.5Mbit over the last six months) but I haven't
rebooted when i've had a strong noise margin for a while either.

Funnily enough it's gone back to 4Mb or thereabouts now and I haven't
changed anything....

He doesn't. He knows he's on the same exchange as his colleague.

You have to be joking.

Last year you couldn't even get to talk to Plusnet customer support during the
daytime IME. I only succeeded in ever talking to them by phoning at around 5 or
6 am.

Things are much better now with Plusnet.
The last couple of times I've had to call them, I got through after just a
few rings.
And it's nice talking to Yorkshiremen who are pretty clued up, compared to
Indians reading from scripts.

Sky BB customer service seems no worse then that of most of the big players,
aol, talktalk, orange, tiscali, BT are all truly awful to deal with it you
have a problem. They all read from a preprepared script, and require
substantial persuasion to push through the complaint to the next level.
