Hello All,

can anyone tell me if I can use a 802.11b wlan card in my pocket pc to
access my Wanadoo Home 802.11g network? Are they compatible or do I need to
look for an 802.11g wlan card for the ppc?

Thanks in advance
Phil

Wanadoo network? I assume this is a network that just happens to be
connected to Wanadoo somewhere.

Should work, mine does.

should work without any problem. The router should just make the
connection with the Pocket PC at a slower speed.

Backwards compatability and all that, bit like when 56k modems came out
but 33.6 users could still dial the same numbers to connect to the
internet.

That's taking for granted that the Wanadoo box is actually backward
compatable (it doesn't have to be)...

I don't know the specific kit, but all the 802.11g bases that I've met
are also back-compatible with 802.11b cards, without exception. What
happened when you tried it?

What they're not usually compatible with is 802.11a. Equipment which
includes 802.11a compatibility will usually say so, clearly, because
it's a feature. But unless *know* that you need to work with some
existing 802.11a base (they're pretty rare in practice), you don't
need it, so don't go looking specially for one of those ;-)

It will work as long as the 802.11g hardware is capable of doing 802.11b as
well. Also there may be a setting that is set to only allow 802.11g
connections. Not being familiar with the Wanadoo hardware, I cant offer any
more help. Check to see if it accepts 802.11b as well as 802.11g.
