PLZ HELP! My new DVD-ROM drvie is not recognized by my computer!

I just bought a Dynex DVD-ROM drvie from Futureshop. Im sure i hooked it up
right but my computer doesn't recognize it's even there. I can insert CDs and
everything, but it wont read them. I treid going into the device manager and
I called microsoft and Future shop AND the people at Dynex, but none could
help! Can anyone else?!
PLZ HELP!

I think you're posting to the wrong group (your dvdrom is not a network
device, and it isn't made by Microsoft).

Check to make sure your jumper settings are correct. They almost certainly
aren't if you are getting the results that you are observing.

Make sure the drive is oriented the right way before you set the jumpers
(this is what the orientation pin is for)

What is an orientation pin?? I have installed a zillion CD/DVD drives etc
but dont know what you mean by that... Do you mean make sure the drive is
not upside down??!

Most drives have a method of showing the orientation of the drive, relative
to the jumper block (i.e. so it is obvious which way is right side up, and
conversely which side is wrong side up).

So make sure you are holding the drive properly so that you aren't putting
the jumper in the wrong place.
