Who would people advise between PlusNet and Zen, it's getting closer to
ordering time.
I was always going to go to PlusNet but am slowly drifting towards Zen, at
only £1 extra a week for 1MB that PlusNet.

Standard reasoning, newsgroups, uptime etc....

Thanks.

I would normally recommend that you order from PlusNet as Zen were
expensive. However, if Zen have reduced their prices to a competitive
level, as they have such a reputation, I would say give them a go - I would.

I have to say that with the exception of one morning on 10th October this
year where I needed to reboot my router multiple times throughout the day as
it lost connection to PlusNet and with the fact that sometimes the
newsgroups work oddly - messages no longer exist on the server for some
stupid reason, I have been happy with PlusNet for the 2 months I have been
with them.

However, Zen have probably the best reputation on the internet as a service
provider. Question is, if they had to reduce their prices because of
competition, how long before that customer level will drop in proportional
service level?

PlusNet is just fine, I have been with them since May 03, not a single
problem, haven't had any outages (that I know of) either.
So why pay Zen more ? £1 a week is £52 per year, for what ?
If you go with PlusNet kindly use my user id 'jerryw' as a referrer,
which would save me 25p a month.
Regards,
Martin

I'm kind of in the same boat, my only "concern" with Plusnet is that the
world and his wife seem to be migrating to them, and I wonder if it might
reach a breaking point, though I do get the impression they're doing the
necessary on the infrastructure side.

I'm half-tempted by Metronet also, be interested in any opinions on them.

regards
Paul

They work well according to some clients, so long as you have made your
own arrangements for webspace, mail and news... Peter M.

PlusNet is not well known outside the 'informed' community, they don't
advertise etc.
I don't think there is much danger of them being swamped, certainly no
problems with service to date.

Metronet doesn't make sense except for possible very low usage, they include
only 200Mb,
by the time you add the charges to 1Gb (middling usage for average user) you
be better of with PlusNet at £14.99,
with 1Mb/s sped to the bargain.
Regards,
Martin

Am I the only person in the world who discounts Plusnet recommendations,
just because of this referrals system?

Really I just need IP connectivity, unlimited usage (in reality I use about
6gb a month max) and a decent newsfeed which is one good thing about
Nildram, they outsource to Giganews, it plays quite a part when choosing an
ISP as usually the inhouse servers suck - Metronet seem to use
newsfeeds.com which seemed a plus point.

Paul
