I am thinking of finally breaking free from BTYahoo and going for the
PlusNet £14.99 service. I don't have any problem whatsoever with the
BTYahoo service, it has been excellent for me, so this is purely a switch
for financial reasons. By switching I could make a saving of £144 a year.

So what are PlusNet like at the moment? Any significant problems I should
be aware of?

Apart from the fact that there is a raging civil war on Planet
Plusnet, who knows? The truth is usually the first casualty of war.

I'd go for somewhere more peaceful if I was you.

why? what is so bad with BTY! that makes you want to jump ship?

Plusnet are going downhill very rapidly in respect of how they are now
perceived by customers it would seem, and I for one was even considering
a jump *to* BT Yahoo! as it seems a solid enough service for my needs?

Personally.
Mail works, text usenet works, binary news could be a lot better, and
my connection has 'just worked' for some time.
I have significant issues with the service, or the response to
queries - my only problem is the somewhat retarded announcements of
restrictions or new features. (in that they'll often announce something
after the fact)

I would not hesitate to recommend a friend, and ask them to quote 'mauve'
as the referrer if they chose to.

The recently announced cap level is significantly over what most
other ISPs who run non-LLU ADSL do.

As I explained in my original post, I have no gripe with BTYahoo whatsoever
and have enjoyed a good service with them for many years. But I have hit a
time where financially, I have to start cutting back. Something has to go.
Not sure what that something is at the moment, I am just testing the water
for ideas.

They are fine but there is a small, but incredibly vociferous, minority that
abuse the system and cry foul when they get caught. For the vast majority it
is OK. If you want to run huge downloads 24/7 then look elsewhere. I have
had five hours downtime in 18 months. There have been some short term
hiccups but no more than any other ISP. If you want a referral then I will
be pleased to give one and claim the 50p!

Well I am not into filesharing, so the only big files I would download are
maybe game trailers from gaming websites.

You should be fine on the £14.99 per month deal.
