Are they known for earlier activation than stated ?

A colleague signed up with them (my recommendation) and he has a date of
Friday, but I know when my line was activated under Pipex I was on 5 days
before the "official" date...

It can happen. If the line does get activated earlier if he puts his
username and password (from sign-up email) in it will fail to connect, try
an hour or so later and their servers will have automatically set-up/enabled
the account.

All the activation times are actually down to when BT Wholesale enable the
line at the exchange, rather than the what ISP is involved (unless its a
DataStream based service - in which case the ISP chosen can also impact the
time)

ok ta, i`ve already told him to plug in and at least make sure he can
connect to the router (wireless jobbie), but if he can use it now even
better :-p

....probably won`t find out until wednesday if he got it sorted out

If he has a "sync" light in his modem router, as soon as that stops
flashing (or lights up), this normally means the line is enabled. As
soon as the router/modem tries to connect, plusnet will enable the
account (takes about an hour).

My Plusnet account went live, 3 days early, it depends on BT thou, not
the ISP.

That raises the question: do you pay from when the line goes live, or
from the official date with the extra day free?

Generally, ISPs only charge you from the officially activation date - though
this will depend on the ISP, i.e. if you pay per mb etc, then it may kick in
immediately.

Hi there,

We only start the subscription charge from when your account is
activated. Some accounts need an initial fee, we will then take the
subscription on the activation date. Others where we take the first
months subscription as a down-payment, the period it covers is a month
from the activation date, not the date the initial fee was taken.

kind regards

But what is the activation date? Is it the date set when the account is
applied for, or is it the date on which the line becomes active if this
happens, say, a week early?

My understanding is that it is the earlier of:
* the date on which PlusNet officially tell you that it is active
* the date on which you first successfully log on to the service

In my case, it will be the second of these - because I'm already up and
running even though PlusNet's checker still says that it's with BT to do the
ISDN to PSTN conversion!
