I am thinking about joining Plusnet and currently use Freeagent for my
newsgroups on Freeserve. I use news.freeserve.net as the news server .

If I move to Plusnet, will I be able to access the newsgroups in the
same way and if so, what would I change 'news.freeserve.net' to?

Thanks,

AIUI, PlusNet has its own news servers carrying a similar range of NGs to
Freeserve. Doubtless a PlusNet user will be able to tell you what it's
called. I assume that Freeagent is an alternative to the default newsreader
Outlook Express? If it works with Freeserve, I see no reason why it
shouldn't work with other news servers.

You can also use a third-party news server which is independent of your
ISP - such as news.individual.net

This means that if you change ISP again, you can keep the same newsfeed. In
anticipation of moving away from Freeserve myself (and at a time when
Freeserve's news server was being particularly bloody) I changed to
news.individual.net

This carries all the newsgroups to which I suscribe - with the exception of
those specifically related to Freeserve - such as freeserve.help.anytime -
and seems to work quite well.

If you only use text newsgroups you could do worse than getting a free
account at www.individual.de - very fast and reliable

Yes, you can use freeagent. You will need to change your news server
setting to: usenet.plus.net

I don't know freeagent, but it's likely you will also have to
re-subscribe to your old groups when accessing the Plusnet server.

If you don't already have someone in mind, can I ask that you use my
referal code near the end of the signup. Use the code: mgillespie

Thanks.

Why not news.cis.dfn.de that is the German news server.

Plusnet also have "home" servers, plusnet.webdesign,
plusnet.gaming.counterstrike etc..... I also knwo Plusnet are about to
upgrade their usenet servers with some serious hardware, making them the
best "free" usenet servers going....
