PlusNet - the pros and cons

My local telephone exchange will be broadband enabled near the end of
this month.

I'm thinking of trying PlusNet having seen a number of good reports about
their service and support on Usenet. I have also seen some adverse
comments regarding the supply of equipment by PlusNet but that doesn't
worry me as I intend getting my own router and filters.

However my first contact with PlusNet is not encouraging. I sent an email
via the mail form on their site about a week ago, asking a very simple
question, and have not received any response. So not a good start.

I also run a non-commercial web site which is hosted for me and for which
I have 100MB of space. This is now nearly full so the idea of 250MB is
very appealing. I'm assuming that I could transfer my domain name and I
see that PlusNet have CGI and PHP which I need. What I can't find out is
whether I can download raw logs that I can process myself (which is a must).

On my current site I can store data related to scripts under the cgi-bin
directory which I understand is not always permitted.

Information from people already 'in the know' would be welcome.

You are provided with raw logfiles for your CGI space, webspace and
any domains that you have (I assume you mean apache logs). You can
process these yourself on the CGI server or on your own machine as you
require.

Our cgi-bin directory is only for the actual scripts, and text or
other non-script data would have to be placed outside of the cgi-bin.

With PlusNet you get a fixed IP address as standard on ADSL accounts.

That is good news.

(I assume you mean apache logs).

What else ? :-)

That means I can download them (ftp ?)- yes?

That is a bit of a drag, but not a disaster. as it will mean altering the
scripts and trying to get them working again :-)

Correct. You can access them through ftp.

I'm now beginning to realise this.

It's just one more reason to stick with Plusnet TBH :-)

Pete.

I forgot to ask - do the logs include search criteria and browser used etc.
