Plusnet NNTP Service

I thought I'd let some of you know what I've noticed over the last 2 or
3 days. It'd be great of support could confirm this.

I just downloaded 5000 headers from news.individual.net and got an
average around 200kB/s I also tried downloading from Plusnets own nntp
server using the same group and same number of header to try & keep it
as scientific as possible. rs. This averaged at about 22kB/s so it looks
to me like Plusnet have changed priority on the throttling/shaping for
external non-binary servers. I'll run the test again later this evening
and see what results I get.

However this could all be because Plusnets own servers are creaking and
are part of the problem. Any comments?

You're daft. Keep on telling the tyke ponces you're getting good
downloads from an external news server and they will soon put a block on
it.

Actually I was commenting on it because they appeared to have throttled
up the individual.news.net server as it was running slowly a few days
ago.

Their service status says 7/10 - we are investigating reports of slowdown,
next update

and tonight, for the first time in well over a year I found the text Usenet
VERY slow with loads of errors !
Regards,
Martin

That's because news.individual.net is on the list of external news servers
whose speed was recently improved as part of a programme to enhance their
Usenet service.
PN's own Usenet service is due to be 'repaired?' by the end of October,
early November.
Mike.

You're lucky. I've found it unusable between 4pm and 1am the next day,
since, and including last Tuesday evening the 11th Oct.
According to PN support, it could be early November before the problem is
fixed.
Mike.
