Plusnet - Firewall

Plusnet appear to have implemented their own firewall which blocks
certain ports at the ISP stage.

Unhelpfully this blocked port 8080 and it also stopped VPN ports. I
tried using Plusnet's customer portal to switch the firewall off but the
ports still appeared to be blocked. Eventually in desperation I turned
the firewall back on and set it to medium, this appears to let VPN work
but port 8080 is still blocked.

Does anyone know how to get rid off this firewall altogether.

If you switch the firewall off then reboot your modem/router this should
do the trick.
It was implemented back in around February/March time and was only
turned on by default on BB Plus accounts.

Thanks that appears to have done the trick.

In this case it appears to have been turned on in September when the
service was regraded to PlusNet Broadband Your Way Option 1 (Monthly
Contract) from Option 2.

When I looked at your website I saw no reference to rebooting the
router, you may want to amend your site to make this a bit clearer.

I've just tested this on my account and when I change the settings there
is a message of:-
Settings updated

For your new settings to take effect, please disconnect and reconnect
your broadband connection.

Try raising a ticket.

If it's any help I'm a plusnet customer and use Cicso VPN without issue,
and port 8080 is https is it not? I regularly use sites which use https
without issue.

8080 is a port often used for web proxy servers.

In this case 8080 is the port for the remote administration web page on
my mum's netgear router.
