Why are the plusnet servers arbitrarily deleting news messages AND WILL THEY
PLEASE STOP IT?

This is the latest of a series of problems with Plusnet Newsgroup
service. I will soon be reaching the 12 month anniversary of signing
up to them. Would be interested to hear from ex-Plusnet users about
their current ISP.

"Some customers may be seeing new usenet articles appearing with missing
bodies. This is being caused a disk IO issue on spool02 which is causing a
delay in writing the new bodies.

Our network engineers are currently working on the problem, and we will post
a further update regarding the issue tomorrow"

In general, I've found plusnets news servers as reliable as many other
ISPs that I've tried.
And at the moment, they are making quite a good stab at a decent binary
news service too.

Before winging - I suggest you actually subscribe to Plusnets own Usenet
status pages - which will keep you fully advised as to ongoing / temporary
problems so you wouldn't have to post these silly messages.

They (PlusNET/Force9) are vastly better at keeping users updated on
problems/solutions than most ISP's that are mentioned in here

Before you go "winging" off into the distance, I suggest that the post
is relevant and dendee is entitled to whinge.

This exposure at least warns others contemplating Broadband that
problems are present at Plusnet.

Irrespective of Plusnet's attempts to correct current problems, the
problem is real and as a result the original poster is entitled to be
annoyed and bring it to others attention away from the confines of
Plusnets own forums.

In which case I hope you'll accept Ian Stirling's comments also...
Although I am a customer of Plus.Net, I also have an 'external user'
account and as someone paying a separate fee for news access, I've no
problem with Plus.Net for news. Peter Morgan. (Posted via ISP #2)

Personally I'm pretty impressed with PlusNet. Okay their newsserver - which is a free
add on to their service - has had a few problems recently, but these are relatively
minor, and have been addressed. I also subscribe to the ClaraNet news server. This is
a paid for service, and quite frankly is poor. Compared to PlusNet which I
effectively get for nothing, Claranet are appalling.

In addition Plusnet post regular updates, happily admit to problems and keep users
posted as to progress.

I've been using the net since the days when you paid a tenner a month for dial up
using a pay number<!>; and Plusnet are by far and away the best when it comes to
keeping customers informed.

You've clearly had a couple of problems and are now seeking to exact some retribution
against Plusnet, but it is not fair to people who are considering BB or Plusnet that
you give such a biased view.

Just my two-penny worth

Not sure who you are referring to as having a biased view. Both of my
posts refer to what has been happening. The £24.99 per month payment I
make is to include binary Newsgroup provision. It is not thrown in for
free. If you excluded Newsgroups, when I started, you paid a lower
monthly payment by approximately £5.00!

Apart from the original posters comments I feel that there have been
balanced responses, in that opinion is sought from people who had
Plusnet and moved elsewhere. If they got a better service it would be
of interest. If they couldn't find better then I would respond by
staying with Plusnet.

No one can argue about their prompt attention to problems, however,
the fact is that the Newsgroup (Usenet) service has been all over the
place in the last few months.

It is not logical for you to suggest that someone giving an adverse
opinion about a service is, as a result, biased.

The Service is clearly in difficulty and this is acknowledge as such
if you look at the many messages in the Service Status section of
Plusnet Member Centre. Blind acceptance of poor service does not lead
to improvement. You may wish to bury your head in the sand and
ignoring what is happening but that is not acceptable to me.

Of course if you are getting the service for free no wonder you are
happy to accept the staus quo - another reason for me to look closely
at the package I will pay for at the end of the first year.

If you mean the ADSL Home Surf account, the saving was really because
of a lower amount of traffic. Having no access to peer-to-peer would
have been no problem for me, but blocking access to binaries was what
decided me not to go for the Surf account (and 250 MB not 25 MB web,
fax to e-mail, etc, not available on a Home Surf account). Peter.
