They are defantley buying an ISP, they have basically admitted it.

Does anyone have any idea who it is?

I heard it was a three way race between F2S, Vispa and NDO. Vispa have since
said it is not them and people have been pestering F2S to deny such rumours
and they haven't denied any of them, which is making a lot of freedom2surf
customers very twitchy.

An answer would be nice Justin, I've been keeping an eye on the forums and
can see people think you know more than you actually do, I find it strange
that not one person from f2s have answered either way on the thread as they
are usually quite active.
We shall see I suppose.

Hi David,

I know absloutley nothing, I'm not operating under a non disclosure
agreement or anything like that. I know as much as anyone else. In an ideal
world I'd love to tell you guys what is going on, but I can't, simply
because I do not know what is going on myself.

What I can say though is from what I have been hearing, at least a couple of
people and probbably more have asked freedom2surf about the matter and have
not heard anything in reply to their emails.

If freedom2surf are not being bought out I see no reason to keep quiet,
these rumours are making both current and prospective customers alike rather
twitchy about them, and I wouldn't have thought that would benefit anyone.

You can be assured, as soon as we do have any additional information from a
source which is genuine, we will let users know via the forums as and when
we can.

Kind Regards,

Justin Johnson

I can now confirm that a buyout is not happening after seeing a statement
from the MD stating this.

Where'd you hear that? The company has been looking into buying other ISPs
for years and only once came close to closing a deal. That ISP has since
been bought by someone else. My guess is now PlusNet have even more capital
available than they had before so they could go for most ISPs if they
wanted to. Some of the names that were on the table aren't on that list but
times change. It'll all sort itself out sooner or later.

I guess a number of customers will be happy with that news. I bet all
the staff are happy with that news, rather than have speculation running,
and concerns about 'downsizing'. Good luck for the future (I'm just one
of many happy customers of PN but have clients who use Freedom to Surf.)

People are getting an ickle bit suspicious though, as on closer reading, the
statement says there has not been a buyout, rather than the fact there isn't
one in process so it doesn't competley rule it out.

Theories are now coming out that they have released this statement because
Plusnet are getting twitchy about all the customers that are walking out and
could reduce their offer or pull out. Thats pure guesswork by someone, but I
can see where they are coming from.

If this is true or not, I'm not sure, however that is one theory that is
certainly going around at the moment, and several people are trying to get a
straight answer out of freedom2surf.

However, if there was a buyout, or even talks of one, wouldn't
freedom2surf (and PlusNet) want to keep it quiet until its happened?

Yep, thats the point Colin, people are thinking thats the reason they are
not coming out with a straight denial.

We've since had a kind of straight denial from someone who emailed sales,
but many people feel it would be better having one from the top.

NDO I reckon, because the NDO beta usenet server (which I'm using now)
uses Plusnet's servers.
