Hi,

Going on plusnet.
Picking their package that has free connection and USB modem.
What I like to know is when I get their USB modem do I have to use it.
Or can I get the package which includes it but get my own modem.

Thanx

Hi,

You don't have to use our hardware if you don't want to, you are free to
use your own equipment if you want to, the Binatone USB we supply can then
just be kept as a backup in case you have a problem with other equipment.

Hi Chris,

If possible I would avoid using a USB modem as their suitability seems to be
varied. It mostly comes down to compatibility between the USB modem and how
sensitive your computer motherboard chip set is if the drawn power goes over
the 500mA spec. I would save yourself some potential hassle and get a
self-powered modem/router with an Ethernet connection to your pc.

Cheers, Mike

Use your own. I am. The Binatone is sitting on the shelf - and I'm wondering
whether there is demand for them on Ebay!

I sold mine for £19.50 last week on Ebay. The trick is to go for a 7-day
listing as USB ADSL Modem - and plan for the auction to end Sunday evening -
that when the bids come in. I also sold my AOL Modem (Green frog) for £25
