Hi,

I placed an order with Plusnet last week and in my account it says that my
service should be activated on the 11th May which is this Tuesday.

Underneath that information it has a Hardware section and it says that my
hardware order has not yet been placed. I though they would send my goodies
before the activation date so that I am ready to use it on that date? Is
this not the case?

nope never has been, its sent once the connection is Live, as it can still

I ordered with PlusNet about a week ago and got an activation date of

week and I plugged it altogether yesterday just in case it was activated
early and it was - I was up and running by yesterday lunchtime.

So far very impressed with the service from PlusNet.

So am I. I used my existing router, and though there were minor problems
migrating my service (probably due to BT "losing" my order) there was only
a downtime of a few minutes of my migration date and haven't had any
problems with the connection for the two months I've been with PlusNet.

Have ordered a regrade to 1Mbps. Likely to fail though.

We will send out hardware before your account is activated. If you let
me know your username, I'll ensure your hardware order goes through
over the weekend.

kind regards

One of the reasons I went with PlusNet was due to the good customer support
reviews it gets on this NewsGroup. However I had to call them last week
after my exchange went live and I couldn't connect. My router was showing
that it was receiving data but there was nothing on the screen.

I'm not a professional by any means with PC's but have built a fair few in
my time and my family and work colleagues always come to me if they have
problems, so I know a wee bit about them. Anyway I phoned PlusNet and the
operator sprinted through the settings on the router as if he had only been
allocated 30 seconds in which to help me. Made me feel stupid at times as if
I should know what PPPoA and VC MUX encapsulating type was. He then
continually disagreed with me that I had the wrong password, he then asked
me to put in a BT test username and password, I couldn't grasp the username
he was spelling out as he was saying it really quick. When I asked him to
spell it out, he spelt it as if he was spelling for a 5 year old. He then
said "I'll get your line checked, keep connected" and hung up.

All it turned out to be was, when the router (Vigor 2600) had any changes
made to it, it took 30 seconds or more before it re connected but since he
was only on the phone for literally 30 seconds there was no chance of him
sorting it.

A few folk on this NG have commented on the fact that customer services try
to get you off the phone as quick as possible. It is a shame really as their
customer support via email and everything else about them is second to none.

Hopefully I was just unlucky and got a guy that was late for his tea but I
doubt it ;o)

Steven.

Argh. The free modem annoyed me so much. I didn't need it, had to pay
£12 delivery for it, and didn't even get the thing for a couple of
weeks. Their parcel people don't seem very flexible, and I had to put in
about three calls to get them to change the instructions. Bleh.

All the same, their service from the moment I've been plugged in (with
the modem I already had) has been outstanding.
