I think they're doing maintenance. This time round I have not suffered
slowness, but a couple of disconnections.

Certainly, from an uptime perspective, they are far worse than Pipex.

Are you on the pipe of doom?

I am supposed to be on it from Monday, maybe they have started early.

My 2mb connection is appaling, I was going to phone customer service and
complain but I doubt they really give a fuck!

Hi,

Oops, pressed the send button early.

I'm not aware of any specific problems regarding speed issues.

How slow are we talking? Have you tried any speedtests? In particular I'd
recommend the BT speedtest as this, details of which are at

http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/27

I'd also suggest having a read through http://cgi.support.plus.net and see
if anything there helps.

Hi,

We haven't moved the affected users yet, so any speed issues are not going
to be related.

We do want to listen, however identifying speed faults is one of the hardest
things, along with intermittant disconnections, to diagnose the exact cause.

The same questions and suggestions I made to Sid apply as a starter.

Nope ... 1meg connection here, currently running at 750Kbps (ADSL Guide
speed test) and that's with my teenager on webcam with her mates, and me
gaming on Xbox (just got fragged whilst typing this .. gah!)

Yes, my slow speeds are back again.
Not as bad as before but still below what PlusNet think I should be getting
for my package.
The BT Speed test showed that there is no problem on the BT side of things
for me as I was getting 1893kbps

The PlusNet test shows that my speeds are down by 500kbps from yesterday and
only getting ~1266kpbs

A trace to Plusnet shows the following:

1 37 ms 23 ms 38 ms lo1.plusnet.pth-ag2.plus.net [195.166.128.6]
2 39 ms 23 ms 34 ms gi1-2.vlan3.pth-gw4.plus.net [212.159.1.3]
3 * 25 ms 32 ms gi5-0-22.pth-gw2.plus.net [195.166.129.213]
4 44 ms 35 ms 37 ms atm0-1-0.ptb-gw1.plus.net [195.166.129.246]
5 * 38 ms 35 ms vl4.sec.ptb-gw3.plus.net [195.166.129.227]
6 41 ms 36 ms 32 ms if2.ptb-al1.plus.net [195.166.129.39]
7 43 ms 40 ms 38 ms portal.plus.net [212.159.8.137]

ROFLMAO - that reminds me of the days when Btinternet had an uncompressed
file called big that they used get 56k users to test with. The best part
was - it was still crap - doing ng headers from freeserve I couls max my
com port - it was nowhere near.

Seriously - I assume the BT speed test does not have anything to do with
plusnet's network - the one the OP thinks is slow? You were of course going
to assume plusnet is slow if his results are OK?

FWIW when I looked at it ages ago the kit I hit sent every third packet
with an mss of 1024 - so it could well be a crap test anyway.

Andy.
