Hello
Can someone please recommend a good broadband provider in England for a
single non networked computer. Ideally I'd like one that is fast and
reliable. I'd like all the services you typically get with a 56k modem based
isp such as web access, newsgroup access and an e-mail address, but which is
fast.

I've been using one particular company that has an excellent reputation for
about 6 months now and for most of that time its been great but over the
past week it's become very unresponsive with most pages either timing out or
only partially loading. Now, when you've become used to a fast reliable
service you get rather frustrated and bored when it stops working. I'm going
to give it some time but if this has become the new norm I'm going to want
to change to another provider.
Has anyone got any unbiased recommendations and are there certain companies
I should avoid?
Thanks.

Hi,
as you appear to be with zen, and no-one else has complained about the
level of problems you are having, are you sure that your ISP is the problem
and not your PC ? ie. have you checked for viruses and spyware on your PC ?

If you don't use binary newsgroups, AAISP are good.

IMHO PlusNet offers the best value for money.
If you don't require P2P it's only £18.99 p/m. (Get your own ADSL modem.)
They are 4th fastest nearly every month.
My connection hit 501.7 kbps recently and hasn't missed a beat since
installation in late May.
Regards,
Martin

www.adslguide.org is probably the best place to start, but
an unbiased opinion is very difficult to find, since we've
all had our own experiences ;-)
Most folk will probably say avoid BT Openworld, but I was
with them for 2.5 yrs without problem, other users of other
ISP's will have similar stories.
At the end of the day, it's down to what you want from the
service, how much you think the service is worth, then find
the ISP that can offer that service.
If your current experience of Zen is good, why change?

P.
