PLEASE HELP! Lost wireless config and connection

My first question looks like it didn't post so far...sorry if this is a
duplicate.

OK...thanks to AT&T, I lost my wireless configuration. Here's my story...

Last week, I lost my phone connection due to a crossed wire at their
station. DSL/wireless was working fine at that time. Once they fixed the
wire, I lost my DSL/wireless connection. The icon said 'not connected'. I
made another phone call to AT&T...

They walked me thru lots of numbers and stuff (start, cmd, IP
address..../release, /renew....I had no idea what I was doing) and got me
connected to DSL. But not my wireless. They said my router was bad which I
know it's not. So now I'm wired! I don't like it and want to go back to
wireless but don't know how.

1. I have a backup...can I find the file and get my old configuration back?
How would I do this?

2. Can someone give me, step by step, instructions? I know this is asking
a lot! I just don't know what to do next.

AT&T say they can't help me.

Thank you so, so, so much!

Annie~

Reset the router to factory conditions and start over with its
configuration. Refer to the router manual for how to do this. If you no
longer have the router manual, go to the router mftr.'s website where
you will find the information.

For the router setup with DSL, you will need to know your username and
password for the DSL service. You got this information when you first
set up your DSL service.

Thanks for the quick response, Malke. I'll go and look for my manual
now...not that it will help me. I had the Geek Squad set up configurations
cuz I don't know the first thing about this. I'm so afraid I'll mess
something up.

Can't I just find my old file and put it back on my computer?

Computers cease to amaze me!

All of a sudden, for no reason I can figure out (I didn't do anything!) my
wireless icon came back on my screen. It said I was connected! I did write
to AT&T to complain...could they have somehow got into my computer and did
something??

I still can't connect just by clicking on the IE icon, tho. I must first
open the connection that AT&T created for me while we were troubleshooting.
Is there a way around this? Or am I being too picky? Maybe this is a good
thing??...now I won't be conntected to the internet unless I want to be.
Before, I was always connected.

How can I open a connection that they created for me (wired) while I don't
have any cables connected to my computer?

Thanks again,
Annie~

Annie, there is no way for me to know what the connection that AT&T
created for you is. If you have DSL, you should not have to click on
anything to get connected. Unless you paid for some lower version of
DSL, modern DSL connections are always on.

The Geek Squad sucks, but it was important for you to have asked them
what they were doing and to have things written down for after they
left. Honestly, at this point I'd suggest that you have a local
professional come in and set you up correctly. Ask your friends for the
name of someone they like. A good tech should give you written
information about what they did, including all router passwords and
encryption keys. You should ask questions if you don't understand
something. This level of tech-savvy is equivalent to knowing what kind
of gas you put in your car.

There is no "old file" for you to put back. I know this isn't what you
wanted to hear, but it is what I think will be most effective.

Thanks again. And I agree that Geek Squad sucks but that's a whole other
story. That'd take quite some typing.

You are right in me asking for someone to come on over. I don't understand
enough to get it up and running the way it used to be. But thank you so much
for trying.

Have a great day...

"There is no "old file" for you to put back. I know this isn't what you

Perhaps she was thinking of the configuration file that most routers allow
you to save (export/import) in case things get gubbered up!

Thanks to all of you!
Here's the weird thing....I'm wireless again but have to log on to connect.
??? There are only 3 green lights on my modem when there used to be 4 before
they messed things up.

AAT&T has called and left a message for me to call back cuz I left an
'unsatisfactory' survey...I'm almost afraid to have them try and fix this.
Will have to brave it out, call them, and see if they can give me my old
settings back.

I understand some of what you guys are talking about and appreciate your
help. Just wish I new more about computers.

Thanks again.
