Hello,
I'm trying to get a win2003r2 server running in a VPC2004 SP2 environment. I
have a win2003 server with VPC2004 installed and patched, then I installed the
win2003 server on the VPC, But I've run into a snag. After installing win2003,
I am not able to attach to the network. When I attempt to change the VPC server
name and change it from a workgroup to the domain, I get a message that There is
already a server with the name I am trying to change to, no matter what I try to
rename it to!! I am running out of time, only 9 days left to activate but I
have no network/internet access yet/?? any ideas??

Hi,

Virtual PC 2007 has been recently released FREE by Microsoft. You may want
to start over with your testing?
Uninstall to old VPC 2004 first. Then install VPC 2007.
Hope that helps,

A little more detail on your network setup would help. How does the host
machine connect to the Internet? How have you configured networking in the
guest?

If you have configured the guest machine so that its virtual NIC is
linked to the physical NIC of the host (which is the default setting) it
should look just like an extra server on your LAN. It should see the
Internet and the other machines on your LAN (if any) just like the host
machine does. It will even get its network config from DHCP if you have one
on the LAN.

Sorry for the delay. The host machine connects through a switch
then through a router, then through a cable modem. The host is
the DNS and the DHCP server. Not sure what you mean about having the
virtual NIC linked to the physical NIC, I did accept defaults, and it appears
that the NIC works because I can see myself, and I can ping my own IP.
I get no response if I try to ping any other IP. I configured the NIC to
obtain an IP from the DHCP but the alternate config is hard coded to an
IP that is available in the domain. what else can I tell you ??
