Please help, can't access internet

I have tried using both a direct cable connection and a
wireless connection to the internet, but neither works. I
am using a HP Pavilion desktop and Comcast cable. I even
removed one network card at a time and tried running with
only a hardwire connection or wireless, but it didn't work.
This cable modem connection seems to be ok, but the
computer doesn't want to work together with the internet.
The connection pings ok with the IP address, but explorer
says that it "Cannot find server".
I have another computer on this same cable modem and it
works just fine.
Please advise.

can you ping your DNS server from your ISP
internet provider?
