Server: PowerEdge 2650 running Server 2003
Clients: Windows XP SP1
We are performing mass backups of old user machines by connecting them on a
private network to a server that acts as a central repository. All XP
clients have a local account "backup" that is used to match a local account
on the server with matching password.
For about two weeks, backups ran normally. Last night, backups siezed with
an error of "logon failure: the account is disabled". However, the account
is not disabled on the server and there are no failure security audits.
What happens is that copying works for about two minutes and then stops with
that error.
I have tried:
1) Actually disabling and then un-disabling the account in question
- No change
2) Rebooting both all machines (server included)
- Copying is allowed for about two minutes, then failure
3) Deleting the "backup" account, remaking an account of the same name,
resetting permissions on the file share using the "new" account
- No change
4) Installing UPHClean
(
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...0-42470e2f3582)
- No change
5) Creating new account "pcbackup", setting permissions, creating said
account on client machines
- Copying is allowed for about two minutes, then failure
It is vitally important that this be remedied as soon as possible. Without
any security failure audits or error messages on the server, I am stumped.
If anyone has any input, it would be appreciated.
