playing games online with router/modem

i am not too good with pc technical stuff and need help
i bought virtual pool 3 and want to play online but cant connect to server
when i try and join a game

ive had help and all my firewalls were disabled and vp3 and gamespy were
given access to use net

we went into port forwarding in my router config as i share a broadband
connection with my brother and opened ports required and forwarded them to
my ip addressbut still no luck

anyone help me or point me in right direction

Sounds like you are doing the right thing.

Did you restart the router after setting up the port forwarding?
Is the firewall running, and does VP3 require server rights?

yes the router rebooted after saving settings , all firewalls were disabled
and i dont know what you mean by vp3 requiring server rights

You may have got the wrong ports?...you could always try putting it in the
DMZ to make sure of that, or perhaps 'half-bridging' would be of use here?

You could always try half bridging, where you set the router to half
bridging, turn of NAT, then set the pc to obtain its IP address
automatically, then AFAIK the pc gets assigned the external IP....someone
will have to correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's how it works.

What chipset does the modem use? (mine uses conexant for example)
