I've just got off the phone from pipex suport who are refusing to
esculate my problem to BT because my speed tests are not below 400 Kbps
download !!

My sync speed is fine at 5600 and my BRAS profile is 4500 kbps, but my
download speeds are crap. I've tried all the test including a differennt
modem and pc and the master socket test. The last suggestion was turn
off your AV and firewall FFS !

They won't esculate to BT unless I get 6 tests at < 0.4 Mbps. I've been
thinking of moving to fast.co.uk as this is the last straw for me with
pipex.

Those stats sound very similar to my own with Eclipse. The speeds have
gone down the toilet in the last few months (last few weeks, particularly
so) I am absolutely convinced that it is Eclipse's deliberate policy - and,
probably, a growing policy among ISPs.

I'll know next week when I connect via enta, but I'm 99.99% certain that
I'll be back to the average 4 Mb speed that I used to get with Eclipse.

The bit about not initiating investigations is very familiar, too - lot's of
bloody silly script reading and suggestions about swapping micro-filters,
followed by dire warnings of a whopping bill if BT investigate my line and
find no fault.

Mind you, there *is* no fault, and no need to send out an engineer to look
at my line, or the exchange equipment - Eclipse know perfectly well what the
'problem' is, and that they are the cause of it.

I wouldn't waste your time with Pipex - if you're out of contract just leave
and save yourself a shed load of hassle.

Quite right. Its not a BT problem.

Pipex are running you over a congested backhaul or a congested internal
network.

Try sending a little more with someone else.

You mean spending surely.

My service with the totally excellent IDnet cost me a premium of only £3 or 20%
over what I used to pay Plusnet.

The difference is chalk and cheese. It's like a 400% difference.

Graham

Pipex are better than Virgin Media, but they're both worse than
TalkTalk.
Good news is, they all need a miracle to be able to beat Tesco's
Supermarket! )

And there's the rub really. The difference between a high contention
backhaul and a low one is small beer.

These ultra cheap services are for gibbons who surf a bit of porn after
work, when the net is faster, and don't even know what they are getting.
Fine.

If you want more, do what you have done. Spend a little more and get a
LOT more.
