Pipex - no help if mailbox over-spammed?

Along with others, I've received 3000 repeated copies of an email over the
last few days.

I tried to clear using Pipex Webmail (without losing the legit stuff) and
Pipex's system kept hanging.

I phoned the Help Desk, only to be told that I would have to clear each of
the 3000 mails manually by marking each for deletion (all 160 pages...)

I asked if they could not just a) filter and delete on the 'virus
intercepted' subject line, and then b) block any further of the same. They
said they could not.

Is this true of Pipex? I can't believe that a large ISP has not got
facilities to deal with this kind of thing.

Thanks

Its not a case of they cant do it but more of a case that you would not be
willing to work for free and neither are they.

I can understand your frustration but if they do it for you and you loose
some emails it will be a bad thing.
Can I suggest you try out mailwasher which will enable you do delete the
mail without downloading them from the server. The pipex webmail is slow and
cumbersome, mailwasher is very good for screening and deleting unwanted
emails without downloading them.

Dunno if Pipex's system is the same as Plusnet, but I can view my mail
without downloading them, using Mozilla Thunderbird, and IMAP.
(imap.plus.net). It's like webmail, in that you don't download the
messages, but you don't have to piss around with slow webbrowsers...
You can simply log in, sort by subject, then delete all the crap, from
single view (no pages).

Have a look for a program called mailwasher. although still a difficult process
you can check through the emails without downloading them all.

im sure someone else will have more info or suggestions for another program to
make it a bit easier to manage mass spammings.

I`ve got a couple of old betas of mailwasher and some decent filters
online here:

www.phoenixbbs.co.uk

As usual, remember to virus check any executable files before you use
them for your own peace of mind :-p

If you are going to spend time hanging round forums making moral judgements,
at least get it right.

>>I tried to clear using Pipex Webmail (without losing the legit stuff) and

> Pipex's system kept hanging.<< - should have signalled to you that the

problem lay in their software, not my willingness to clean up my mailbox.

My advice: read postings twice before replying...

Yes, it is MEANT to do that but it turns out that the 2 programs they have
can be flakey - eWeb (very flakey) and Netmail (a wee bit flakey).
Anyway, now sorted
