Interesting, I couldn't access either of the original servers as of
several weeks ago.

news-text.dial.pipex.com is still working and I'll be cheesed off if I
still can't use it if I request the 1meg peak 2meg off-peak account.

Spoke too soon it's not resolving now, so it looks like gx networks will
have one less customer when I can be bothered to move.

nntp.dsl.pipex.com was painfully slow (but uncapped) before I started
using the text only server. Judging by the slow header speed I've just
seen, it's not much better now that it(they) are 5GB free then pay-per gig.

The pipex solo products have gone for new customers their replacement
doesn't have ng access included, so if I want to change from solo to get
2meg off peak 1meg 6-12 for the same I pay for 1meg, I will have to pay
extra for access to possibly slow binary servers. When all I want is
text (I know I can pay news.individual.net) - but I can also get a
better price elsewhere for the amount of bandwidth I use.

Quite a few isps changing service packages of late. Beginning to think
staying with BTYahoo is a safe option. At least I know where I stand with
them.

Silly sod. If a lot more people were to vote with their feet, ISPs
wouldn't get away with treating their customers like shit. Instead of
that, you're happy to bend over, grease your arse, paint a target on the
chocolate starfish and let yourself be shafted.

[snip]
Tonight the new server "nntp" is delivering about 3,000 bytes/sec. I
was getting more than 10 times that speed last week on the old ones.
