I've just had Pipex ADSL xtreme500 switched on. Whilst the net and mail
access is fine the news.dsl.pipex newsgroup server is horribly slow - it
brings the headers up instantly but takes some seconds to bring up the
messages.

With Virgin there was a 'binary free' news server that was much quicker than
the one they normally pointed you towards. Any equivalent for Pipex?

I also have Pipex ADSL at home and find the slow NG infuriating. Can
anyone recommend an altenative news reader?

You can register for http://news.individual.net (free) - its text only.

I've switched to text-only news server and it's much faster. The longest I
had to wait for a message to appear was around 10 secs, usually it's
instantaneous, not like 2 min I had to wait with usual Pipex news server!

Gives the impression that they are recording information or checking up on
all the binary news group users and their activity.
