pipex cold calling

I got a call today from someone claiming to work for pipex, saying they
were calling me because I'd requested information from them about
broadband. I said no I didn't. They asked if anyone else in the
household had. I said no. They didn't know my name. Anyone else get this
call?

Weird- I rarely get cold calls, and I'm on the list not to call or
whatever it's called. (I forgot to mention that on the phone!)

Dont get many calls like this myself - but from what i remember
reading elsewhere the BT block lists only applys to UK based co. If
someone called from abroad then they can call anyone they want.

Have you entered your telephone number in their site to do a broadband
check? Lower down the page they have a box you have to tick if you do
not want to be called.

Nope. I'd thought of that though, as a possibility.

IIRC I got similar shortly before I finally f*cked them off completely
(think they were trying to push their "phone package" at the time)

Pipex need to be hammered over this complete and utter disregard for
consumer protection.

Anyone can enter anyone else's number in the box and Pipex will call,
pass the number onto others etc, etc.

Hmm, I did that (put my fone number into the Pipex site) and got
repeated spam fone calls from "Pipex Homeservice".

I had to get quite rude and cross with them, but the a-holes
still continued, until I threatened them with the Information
Commissioner.
