Pipex and BT really did it this time

From Xmas I ran a campaign to bring broadband to my area and finally in June
we hit our trigger.

The week after BT gave me an insane install date of the 1st October
(today)... which I thought was insane cause it just envolves slotting in
cards...etc...

Last month I saw the thing about the BT trial and I thought great wait 6
more days and get 1mbit instead...

I then saw pipex at £28.95 pm... that must be had...

Now its the 1st as I said and I go to sign up and it says the following on
the Pipex's site:

"* From the 1st of October 2003 customers subscribing to the PIPEX
Xtreme Solo/Solo2Go 1000 services will pay a monthly subscription of £33.99
inc VAT. Customers who have already placed an order prior to this date at
the old subscription price of £28.95 per month will be unaffected as PIPEX
will continue to honour this price for the first 12 months."

Personally I think this is insane. I now hate BT and Pipex...

Never really liked BT for kicking me off their Anytime Service a few years
back but this really does but this really does go over the top...

Has anyone got any suggestions who I could go with as a 1mbit home ISP? I am
wanting to pay around £30 a month inc VAT ?

I would prefare a well known ISP and they must not block any ports or have
download restrictions...

Many thanks,
- Richard

I think it stinks, I saw pipex's offer for £28.95 for there solo 1000
package, so I thought ummm, I will give them a ring as it stated "for a
limited time only" they told me they had no plans to increase the price at
present (I got told this yesterday as well 30/9/03). So I decided to migrate
from my current ISP to pipex and then upgrade to the solo 1000 package. Then
today as in the previous thread they increased the price overnight, so I
feel as if though I have migrated for nothing, like I said I think it
stinks, they could have least gave people notice of the price increase.

Exactly... I have sent them an email begging for the reduced price... (I am
a student :P)... but I know its gonna be a No...

Might just go with PlusNET £34.99 pm inc VAT and they are a GREAT company
apparently...

I don`t know where you got the stupid idea it only involves slotting in
cards. It involves Fuzitsu installing system racks, then cabling from
the system racks to the MDF, which is mainly from one end of the
exchange to the other. This cabling then needs terminating ( some 8
thousand pers of wires. Then the cards are fitted , tested and then
commissioned and then handed over to BT for service. Not just slotting
in cards.

The thing is, it is not BT who install the equipment. So they have to
wait for someone else to come in and do it. 3 months is not bad really.
Also some of the installed cable is a fibre link and when terminating
this you just cant do it in a hurry, or you end up doing it ALL again.
