Physical Line Error?

Hi. Can anyone throw any light on this problem?

Signed up to Tiscali phone/2mb broadband package 3 months ago.
Connected via a Safecom 4-port modem/router and everything was fine
until a few days ago. Then broadband died although the phone was OK.

I have tried 2 other routers (D-Link, Netgear), all of which report
'line error' or 'physical line error' and none will sync. At
Tiscali's request, I have also connected the supplied USB modem
(Sagem) but XP reports 'no dial tone' and the ADSL light is off but
the Power light is on. I have connected all hardware directly to the
test socket inside the BT master socket. Also, I have tried different
filters and modem cables.

Have rung Tiscali about 6 times and they have carried out a line test
each time (with the USB modem connected). They say the line test
shows no fault and the modem is connected.

I think the above proves that this is a BT problem but I'd be grateful
for confirmation of this or any other advice.

Tiscali initially refused to believe that BT are at fault but I think
they are now escalating the problem to BT.

My neighbour, who's also with Tiscali, had exactly the same problem two
weeks ago.

I tried my spare ADSL 'modem' on his line, but the ADSL light didn't
even light up. My neighbour was busy doing other things and said he
didn't have the time to contact Tiscali about it. Apparently everything
started working again a couple of days later.

Incidentally, he hasn't been LLU'ed.

It cost Tiscali to get BT involved so of course they will get you to
jump thru hoops before getting them involved. It also protects your
pocket as well as if the problem is at your end you may be liable for
costs as well
