Persistant Port Forwarding

I am having an issue using persistant port forwarding to
set up a server on my local network, the server uses TCP
port 8374 only, i set up my port forwarding as follows:
Inbound port(s): 8374-8374
Type: TCP
Private IP Address: 192.168.1.21
Private Port(s): 8374-8374

Everything should work, however when i try to connect to
my server, it doesnt work. I know for sure it is not my
server set up because connecting to 192.168.1.21 works
just fine. The funny thing is, even with DMZ enabled to
the computer, connections still wouldnt come in. I tried
disabling "Block ICMP commands" Can anyone tell me what i
am doing wrong here? this worked fine on my linksys
router...

Other info:
Base station: MN-700

Thanks in advance
Matt

The MN700 doesn't have loopback support.

Hopefully that is something they can add in a future firmware upgrade
(similar to the firmware update that gave loopback support to the
MN100/MN500) but there is no guarantee that this will happen.

OK that sorta helped, from an outside computer, i can
connect IF DMZ is on, however DMZ is outta the question.
Even with the same persistant port forwarding setting, it
still wont connect :S Any other ideas?

You should not have to turn on DMZ for a port forward to work.

If you had to turn on your DMZ, you are likely not entering the port forward
in properly

You shouldn't need DMZ. Are you sure you only need to
open that TCP port? Try putting a software firewall on
the computer with the server (e.g. the free ZoneAlarm),
and access it locally (using the local IP) and trace
which ports are accessed.

No, i WROTE the program, i am sure it only uses that one
port... could it be that the servers IP is assigned by
DHCP? do i need a static ip? if so, how do i assign static
ips?

I got port forwarding working 2 ways: app triggered and
persistent. If your app does a listen on the port, then
app triggered should work and you can use a DHCP
(dynamic) IP for the server (the router will bind
dynamically the port forward).

Otherwise, you must assign a static IP to server. First
go to the router and under the page Local Area Network
change the range of IP's assigned by DHCP (e.g. set the
range to 3 to 254), reserving 192.168.2.2 for static.
Also do a persistent port forward for IP 192.168.2.2 and
your port. Then on the PC, go to the properties page for
the network (for XP under network connections, right
mouse click on the connection icon), and under Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) change from "Obtain an IP address
automatically" to "Use the following..." Set the IP to
192.168.2.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway and DNS
192.168.2.1.
