Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong in getting my permissions
set up.

Here's the scenario:

I have a folder called "Quotes". It is shared.

In it are three subfolders:

Folder 1
Folder 2
Folder 3

Each of these folders has 3 sub folders:

Folder 1a
Folder 1b
Folder 1c

etc.

I need to set it up so that the members of Group A have full access to the
contents of Folders 1a, 2a and 3a. Members of Group B need full access to
Folders 1b, 2b, 3b, etc. Members of Group Master need to have full rights
to all of the folders within this shared folder called Quotes.

I've tried setting up share permission, as well as changing security.
However, when a user opens a file in one of their folders it opens as read
only.

I ended up having to give full rights to everyone and the read only problem
went away.

However, in my environment everyone can't have full access to everything.

I'm really hoping I don't have to set up a folder share for each individual
folder.

I'm new to Windows, coming from Novell...and permissions seemed a bit easier
there.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Glenn

Hi Glenn,

Try this:

On the Quotes folder go to Properties -> Security -> Advanced
Uncheck Inherit from parent... and click the Remote button to clear the
existing ACL
A Group1 & Group2 and give them Traverse Folder permissions and give group
Master Full Control
Go down to Folder1 and give Group1 Full control on this folder
Go down to Folder2 and give Group2 Full control on this folder.

After this Master should be able to read/write to all folders
Group1 will have read/write to folder1 but no read elsewhere
Group2 will have read/write to folder2 but no read elsewhere

If Group1 is supposed to be able to read but not write the files in Folder2
then grant them read permissions as well from the quotes directory.

Hope this helps,
