Permission Issues

Hi

I have a strange issue which I can not resolve.

We have a windows 2000 server. A local user of that machine (it must be a
local user), needs to be able to see a certain folder on the domain
controler (which is windows server 2003).

I am having difficulties working out how to do this. I am not familiar with
advaced permissions.

Hello Adrian,

Create a user in AD on the domain and set the needed permissions on the folder.
NOw create a mapping on the 200o machine to the shared fodler and provide
the domain user account credentials. That way the local user should be able
to access the shared folder.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I had already added the user to AD on the domain and set admin privilages. I
then go the the Win 2000 Server and logon as the local user (not a member of
the domain). I can browse to the computer I need but it will not let me
access. It displays the error messages about I have not got permission.

Strangely I can browse to any other machine on the network and I get offered
a username and password box. But not on the machine I want to access!
Perhaps this is because it is the PDC.

Any reason you are using browsing and not a direct UNC or mapped drive?
Mapped drives will allow you to supply alternate credentials, meaning you
can supply the domain credentials you've created.
