performance tuning of suse9.3

Friends.

I installed suse9.3 in my machine.
I feel now that the X is slow.
I stopped all services.
I use KDE.

When i use open office it become slower.
I increases the memory size oprion in OO.

Any other hack to improve the speed of OO or my system?

Yes, recompile your kernel with preemptable-kernel-option.
Install the correct drivers for your video-card. What card do you have.
Check DMA-Settings of your harddrives.
