Hi,

I've setup a windows 2003 server to function as a router for the
internal network with two nics using RRAS.

NIC 1 External Network
NIC 2 Internal Network

Everything works as it should, the client can access the internet and
so can the server.

The issue im having is when im transferring a big file from from a
client to the internal interface of the server. The server becomes very
slow and stalls. So does the network speed, its going up an down and
stalls in the middle and at the end.

This doesnt happen when i turn off RRAS on the server. So it seems that
all internal traffic is also going thru RRAS wich is causing the
performance issue. Is there any way to solve this issue.

This is a test setup and im pretty new to the RRAS functionality in
windows 2003, so any help is appreciated.

Ferry

No, it does not go through RRAS,...it can't,..there is no where for it to
"go". Assuming you don't have the "internal vs external" config messed up.

But the server is duel homed and you do need to make sure the binding order
is correct and that DNS is done properly

Bnding order:
Properties of Network Places
Advanced from the top menu
Advanced Settings from the dropdown menu
Set the Intetnal nic (connection) to the top of the list.

DNS
Use only the internal AD/DNS (assuming you do have a domain)
Use *no* other DNS
Add the ISP's DNS to the Forwarders List in the config of the AD/DNS
service.

There is also some potential for this below to be a problem, but I wouldn't
mess with it until all other things are dealt with.
