How do I set up performance monitoring to detect the
bottleneck in accessing our data drive. I am upgrading
our SBS2K server, currently dual SCSI drives (mirrored)
on dual 2.0GHz P4 xenon MB, 2 gigram. connected to 1gig
switch with gigabit Nic. Workstations running W2Kpro (P4
512) meg ram with 100 MHz nics. I want to determine if
the data throughput is being throttled at the server,
controller, mirror, server nic, network cabling, or
workstation nic. Different workstations seem to acess
data faster, when the workstations are all relatively
equal. The application is a Visual Foxpro application
residing on the workstations with the data file on the
server, as we add more users accessing the application
the throughput declines appreciably. Any help on what
settings to select in Permon and tasks to run would be
helpful. I don't think the problem is in the network
however the application vendor states that they have
clients that have no performance issues with 25-30
clients accessing the server. Thanks for any help or
directing me to KB articles.
