I am trying to get my D-Link DSL-300G+ modem to work with my ADSL
connection. I have it connected to a standalone PC via an ethernet
connection. The ADSL and Ethernet LEDs are showing constant green - which is
good. However the connection status is "Peer abort".

Does anyone know what this means? It is a PPPoE connection.

I know the ADSL account works becasue I can use another USB ADSL modem but
not this D-Link ethernet modem.

My ISP is ESatBT in Ireland.

Hi Anthony,

I don't now much about ADSL in Ireland, but I can tell you that all the
major ISP's in England work on PPPoA not PPPoE.
Try changing the setting on your modem to PPPoA and you might have some
luck.

(PPPoE - Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet, PPPoA - Point-to-Point Over
ATM)
(ATM - Asynchronus Transfer Mode, the technology that lets data and
telephone travel over the same line whilst not letting any one data type hog
the line)

Hope this helps.

I wish people would stop spouting this rubbish.
PPPoA/PPPoE is dependent on the exchanges which
BT upgraded long ago. I have had PPPoE running
with Demon and AAISP.

I have sorted the problem. The authentication method should have been chap
and the modem default is pap.
