My nfsd works fine with redhat9 server and unix clients. I cannot
find pcnfsd for redhat anywhere. Can somebody point out where i can
get it from please? Has pcnfsd been replaced by something on Linux?
Everything i do find is from the late 1990's

thanks for the assistance.

You can use the pcnfsd on your HP-UX box for your Interdrive client.
You do not have to Authenticate to the same server you access/mount.
When you Authenticate you are simply establishing credentials UID/GID
that are used to access the NFS resource. There are ports of PCNFSD
for Linux, if you want one let me know. Personally I would stay with
what you are using and not go the Samba route.

Why would you want to make 'nix' look like Windows just to do file
sharing?? Do you really think Windows is better? If you need the other
capabilities that Samba supplies then go with it. If you are just
looking to share data PCNFSD and NFS are perfectly fine. The NFS
protocol works between almost every OS in the world and gives you a
standard for sharing data. The one caveat I would make is if you are
sharing over the external internet then depending on your security
setup it may not be right for you.
