Hi All,

I was just wondering .. anyone seen / used a PCMCIA / Cardbut ADSL
adaptor please?

I know 'mobile' (laptop) and broadband aren't typical bed partners but
quite a few folk use laptops as desktops it seems ...?

All the best ..

p.s. nothing came up easily on eBay or Google ..?

<waves>

I did use the built-in network port to connect it to my ADSL router. But the
port died.

So now I use a PCMCIA network adaptor or a USB network adaptor.

Cheaper and more flexible than a dedicated PCMCIA ADSL modem (which I'm
fairly sure doesn't exist).

Try thinking in terms of wireless adsl modem/router + CardBus/PCMCIA
wifi adapter...

I have both and thought I'd lost my SMC USB <> Ether adaptor (bought
from Aus off eBay!) .. I like both models because XP knows them
without the need for extra drivers.

But less messy than either Grant? My Tecra 8100 only has 1 USB (V1.1)
port so that would be 'ok' with just (say) the ADSL modem but
anything more than that (like my pen drive) and I'll need to pack a
little 4 port HUB. Similar with a USB <> Ether or PCMCIA Ether <>
ADSL Router .. more kit to carry about (why do we start off with a
Laptop in a soft case and end up with it in a suitcase (for all the
'bits')) ;-(

I take your thought re non existance of PCMCIA <> ADSL adaptor though
... less someone knows different?

All the best ..

Indeed .. well I *could* do all that but it sorta defeats the point.
What I wanted to be able to do is (say) go to a mates who may be
having problems with his ADSL internet connection and plug the line
cord from my PCMCIA ADSL card, straight into the BT socket, change the
dial params as needed and click connect? (I dare say ADSL modems will
be built in one day as dial up modems and lan / wifi are today?)

The next best option would be to use something like a Voyager ADSL USB
modemm (through a mini 4 port USB hub if I wanted to use my pen /
floppy drive) but that's another 'box' to have to carry, unwind
cables, plug in etc etc.

Just a thought though .. ;-)

All the best ..
