PCMCIA Card Recommendation for WAP11

I am looking for a decent PCMCIA card for use with a Linksys WAP11 (v2.2).
Immediately, I thought of the Linksys WPC11, but I've read bad things about
its range. Range is important, as the access point is upstairs, and the
laptop with the PCMCIA card will be downstairs.

After reading through the newsgroup, I can only gather that an Orinoco
Silver is the way to go. I'm in the UK, and I can't seem to find a trace of
these cards here. My budget is £30-40. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

"If you can find a SMC 2532 "High Power"
card it will probably do the job. It also has
a snap-off antenna which reveals two MMCX
sockets which can be used to connect an
antenna if needed. It costs about 50 U. S.
Dollars and the antenna if needed about
25 U/ S. Dollars.

That is a good card, with excellent Tx and Rx specs. It may be a little too
good for the UK, which I believe conforms to the 20 dBm EIRP limits -- it is
rated at up to 23 dBm, even without its external antenna. I believe,
however, that it must include a way to tune the Tx output down.

Seppy, if you want the venerable ORiNOCO card, get the Gold, not the Silver.
And look for what is now called the "Classic Gold," which earned ORiNOCO its
reputation, mostly for good receive sensitivity that is critical in your
regulatory environment. The current owner of the ORiNOCO line, Proxim, has
replaced the innards of its current Gold models. Watch eBay.

Many thanks for your reply.

Why not the Silver?
