I have set up a home network using a Netgear DG834G. I want to add
another pc to the LAN. The pc is a P3 700 512meg RAM running Win ME,
with a spare 3.3v PCI slot.

So far I've looked at the ebuyer, Netgear and Belkin PCI wireless
adaptor cards.

Which one do you use or which one would you recommend.

Many thanks

I have a Buffalo half height PCI wireless card in one PC and a Belkin
one in another. Both were straghitforward to install, the Belkin
802.11g one was £20 and is sat in a Windows ME machine.

If you want to do fancy encryption you may find a Netgear gets on
better with the Netgear router, on the other hand you may not !

Thanks for the reply, Phil.

I was not sure if my Netgear router would need a Netgear pci card. My
other pc and laptop are not fitted with Netgear devices.

Will I be able to do 128 bit WEP encryption with some of these other
cards?

that was my point really, while any card will undoubtedly work as a
WLAN card if you want to use fancy encryption I would tend to use the
same manufacturers card for certainty. Do you use it now on the mixed
devices ?

The Belkin I put in recently had lots of encryption options, and the
spec says it supports 128 bit WEP. Equally the Buffalo. I did find
that I needed to update XP to get 128bit working on a Belkin PCMCIA
card.

What I don't know is whether Belkins adapter-side interpretation of
128 bit encryption matches Netgear's router side interpretation, you
only find out by trying or finding someone else doing the same thing.
