I am using RH 9.0.
I have activated the network card, configured xDSL connection and activated
ppp0.
The connection succeeded but I cannot browse websites and ping ips.

Could anyone give some comments/ advice on it ?
Thank you very much.

Yvette

Elaborate.

Random guess, there's no defaultroute set, check /etc/ppp/options
or wherever this file is on your box for an entry "defaultroute".

Look at the output of:
netstat -rn
ifconfig

Or maybe a bogus default route that interferes with pppd defaultroute
option. The above 'netstat -rn' or '/sbin/route -n', and ifconfig should
reveal that.

Or maybe there are no nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf. Depending upon how
pppoe is configured, it might be able to insert those automatically from
your ISP. Otherwise you may need to plug them in manually (see: man 5
resolver).

What do logs say about the connection (typically /var/log/messages)?
Could also be a firewall issue (some systems have default firewall
enabled).

Thanks for your reply.
I have checked /etc/ppp/options and found that only "Lock" was here.
I added an entry "defaultroute" but I still cannot browse websites and ping
ips.
Are there any other settings to be set ?

Thanks a lot.

Best Regards,
Yvette
