PC not remembering the password for shared folders on XP Pro

Hi everyone,
got a machine running Windows XP Pro, and a laptop running the same. the
desktop has a number of shared folders, which are mapped onto drive letters
on the laptop. The shares are password protected, but I want the lapop to
store the passwords to allow instant access to the data while on the
internal wired network.

However, the laptop doesn't have a tick box to force it to remember the
passwords. is there a simple registry fix or option somewhere that i've
missed that allows you to force the machine to remember the password?

When you map the drive, there is the option to log in as a different
user, you can then enter the username and password. However, this
sometimes doesn't work.

PMFJI, I'm trying to do this here, but all I get is full access or
access denied, no password prompt.

I found that option, tried it and still no joy. Stupid machines! ;-)
