Do you want the PC to be a server for Internet users (like
a web server), or a LAN server to share Internet access
with other computers on your LAN.
Assuming the first PC is running XP. The first PC will have
two network connections. The first PC will have to be on
for other computers to get on the Internet (it is also the
right computer to set up a web server, etc.)
Connect
Modem <-> USB/PC/RJ45 <-> router <-> other PC's.
Configure the Internet access on the first PC (and enable
the firewall on this connection only). Turn on ICS on the
PC, disable DHCP on the router, and set it to bridge mode.
All other PC's should be configured to obtain an IP from
the "server" dynamically. Set all PC's to the same
workgroup name. We're done.
