I haven't fooled with a 3490 in quite some time, but usually they are
hooked up to a IBM mainframe via 'Buss and Tag' (main frame channels) or
native controllers on a AS/400. There may be a model that hooked up to
a PC based machine that emulated a main frame operating system. The
only one of these systems I ever saw ran OS/2 under the covers.
Typing in PC 3490 gave some 344,000 hits in Google. It looks like you
aren't the first to want to do this. It looks like some do a conversion
and some have hardware for sale.
Good luck,
John
