Hi
I experience a lot of dropouts - wildly fluctuating signal strength and
quality - with the Zonet Zew1000 (Rltl8180 based) pcmcia card and the
linksys wifirouter BEFW11S4, even when located close (a few feet) to the
wifirouter. Yet when connecting through the USB Linksys WUSB11 I have
perfect reception even in the basement, through a concrete floor, or in the
garden (some 20 feet away).
My first thought was interference, but that can't as the usb wifi is
excellent.
What can I tweak on the linksys router to improve reception on the Zonet
ZEW1000 ? I have tried channel 11, 13, but no difference.
Any Ideas ?

Pieter

Hi!

I just wanted to install an ad-hoc network with the Zonet ZEW1000
inside a laptop running Win XP and a WLAN USB Stick (Fiber line
FL-WL240U) inside the desktop running Win 2000. I am not able to get
any connection. Now I read your posting and wonder if there's
something really wrong with the Zonet PCMCIA card?
Did you have any problems getting a first connection, too? Did you
ever try running it in ad-hoc mode?

best regards,
Frank

Hi
Never tried Ad Hoc mode, always Infrastrsucture mode.
I do have a connection but it is fluctuating in strenght and quality..range
is tiny, just a few feet, and connection to internet via Linkysys wireless
router is unreliable.
The ZEW 1000 is not a very good card (the software on the cd talks about
the Prism Driver, when windows tells me that there is no chip Prism but a
chip Realtek 8180 installed in the card ...weird). One day I will buy a
Linksys pcmcia card.
I first thought that my wireless keyboard and mouse using the same 2.4 Mz
band was interfering, but that is unlikely as the USB wireless card on a 3
rd compueter works fine.
Changed the channel anyway to 13 but this did not improve much...
I think that Zobet Zew 1000 has either minimal error correction, too much,
or none at all.
Best regards
Pieter
