Trying to help my brother setup his NTL cable network. Looking for a crossover
cable, but sometimes see them listed as a Patch cable. Is this the same thing?
Do I need a particular patch cable specification for pc to pc connection, or
will any patch do? thanks.

For PC to PC you need crossover. For PC to switch/router you need patch. For router to
switch you need crossover.

Most new routers and switches dont care what you use, i have mine using both doing
different things. But PC to PC you must use crossover. I reccomend you get a switch rather
than use direct connection between 2 PC's. I had problems using direct cable, one PC would
crash when other is switched on. I reccomend this :

with some patch cables :

Thanks for the links. Its all beginning to get a bit more than our budget, so I
managed to find a crossover and pci card quite cheaply. Will look for a router
in the future, but its not feasible at the moment.

I paid only £2.50 for the cable. I was going to use ebuyer, but felt their
postage charges were too much. I got the cable and network card for £9.64
including delivery and vat. So am happy with that.

I have bought from there before, and they are very good, but for the two items I
needed, the delivery was a bit high. I finally got the items from Savastore.com
