password-protected NAT access

Hi everyone,

I have a NAT setup with a linux box as the internet gateway. How can I set
it up, so that every time a machine tries to access the internet, it is
prompted for a username and password?

I know this is possible with pure proxy servers, but is there a way to set
it up for NAT in general? I'm running a transparent squid setup with
iptables.

IP itself has no mechanism for this. You would have to use something
like a socks proxy if you wanted this to work with non-http traffic.

Or, perhaps you want a captive portal, such as NoCatAuth
