password protect shared files

HELP! i'm connected on a local network and want to share
some files for others to access but cannot find any way
of passord protecting them to limit access. I'm sure
there must be a simple solution but the microsoft website
only mentions "share level access controls" and doesn't
tell you how to implement them and the inbuilt help is
even more useless.

I know this isnt a hardware issue but any help is still
appreciated!

That answer depends on the OS you are running. Answer that question &
we might be able to point you in the right direction.
