Password access for workgroup resources.

How do you set up password access for Windows XP, 98SE 2000 etc. machines on
a workgroup.

I want to make sure that only authorised people are accessing those
resources.

Are you sure about that?

When I had two Win98SE computers hooked up, peer to peer, with Client for
Microsft Networks there was no password required to access shared files.

Is XP different in that respect?

I am connecting a Win98SE PC with a wireless NIC to a WinXP2 PC with a
wireless NIC through a wirless router.
